The first 8 chapters are comprised of UPDATED executive summary overviews of the various aspects of EMTALA, designed for quick concept understanding. New sections include the full text of the 2008 advance copy of the Site Review Guidelines. The remainder of the book is made of more than 100 UPDATED EMTALA compliance topics in Quick-Reference format.

PLEASE NOTE: This is quick summary material and not detailed analysis or legal advice.

A detailed Table of Contents and extensive index allows quick access to the exact issue you wish to address.

Each topic typically is one to two pages in length and includes:
  • Rule: A quick version of the official EMTALA provisions or practical rule with a key to where the answer came from;
  • Application: A discription of how the rule applies or is enforced in EMTALA situations in real life;
  • Documentation: A discription of what specific documentation items are required for compliance and recommended for risk management considerations;
  • Caution:Practical warnings based on the author's 18+ years of EMTALA compliance cases and plans of correction. EMTALA is not always what it appears, and physician or hospital interpretations are often well-intentioned but dangerous.
