Armed Robbery of Hospital Shocks Police

Robber hits hospital pharmacy in OxyContin heist.

Published Sep 5, 2006

A Utah hospital pharmacy was robbed on August 24 by a man who simply walked up and handed a clerk a note demanding OxyContin and stating he had a gun, the Deseret Morning News reported. The hospital robbery was the latest of several armed robberies of pharmacies in the area, including one subsequent to the arrest of the hospital robber.

The robber took more than 100 OxyContin pills from the Alta View Hospital Pharmacy, and triggered a lock-down of the hospital as police surrounded and searched the building for the suspected who was believed to be hiding inside. The police search proved fruitless, but the suspected was arrested later in a motel following citizen tips.

Police and hospital officials were shocked by the bold robbery that occurred inspite of the hospital's security personnel and security cameras in the area.
