JCAHO Clarifies Credentialing and Privileging Stardard Enforcement

Field review standards numbering caused confusion.

Joint Commission staff have received several inquiries regarding the numbering system used in the field review of the draft Credentialing and Privileging standards. That numbering system raised concerns that some existing standards have been deleted from the Medical Staff chapter. To clarify, no Medical Staff standards have been deleted.

=20

When we designed the field review, we debated how to number the draft credentialing and privileging standards. Because we were not field-reviewing the entire Medical Staff chapter, and because we wanted reviewers to concentrate on the credentialing and privileging standards, we posted only the standards in question and numbered them 1.0 through 8.0. We thought we had made the field review process easier, but in reality we made it confusing.

Again, no Medical Staff standards are being deleted. We sincerely apologize for any misunderstanding or inconvenience we have caused.

Please feel free to contact either Brenda White at bwhite@jcaho.org or Lynn Berry at lberry@jcaho.org if you have any questions or concerns about the Credentialing and Privileging Field Review. Thank you for participating in the field review.
