Some folks have questioned why I am ending the website and newsletter over security concerns. It is simple — In the past 3 years, I have become very involved in and aware of cybersecurity and privacy issues, beyond just HIPAA, and it is apparent to me that breaches are inevitable. I feel a website and newsletter that has private information of its subscribers has a responsibility morally, ethically, and legally to protect that information, and more importantly, you have trusted me with your info. As a part-time publisher, my only ways to protect your info against full-time hackers are to take the site and mailing list out of play or spend massive time and money trying to stay ahead of the hackers — removing the site form play, therefore, is the only reasonable option that will allow me to sleep at night. Your information will be removed from our mailing system and destroyed on February 1 or sooner if you use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the newsletter.
