On Independence Day

It is not that we don’t have our faults … it is that even with our faults, the values that formed this country and the people who have stood for those values although embattled and beleaguered continue to fight for the Constitution.  That fight rages on today at home and abroad against enemies foreign and domestic.

The people who use this site tend to be a special breed of people committed to God, country, and service in many capacities.  Many of us swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution as we served in one capacity or another.  That oath did not come with an expiration date or a convenience clause, or an upper age limit.

Today we celebrate our Independence Day, again.  Let us hope that we are able to celebrate this day for many years to come — not as a historical concept but as a current and future reality of freedom under the Constitution.  I have children, a grandchild, and another on the way and that freedom is more important to me than ever — for their sakes.

Pray for our freedom and for that of future generations of Americans and pray for peace and safety for all of those who put their lives on the line in the armed forces, police, fire, rescue, medical, and other jobs that protect the public.
